Today we will look at how motivation and staying positive can overcome adversity, approaches you can adopt when situations in life start getting a little tough.
One certain fact of life is that we will almost inevitably experience various misfortunes and adversities throughout our lives. Some people endure this more than others…
If you haven’t yet had to go through a set back of some form or other then the question begs “have you been truly living your life”? The blows life can throw at us can seriously hit us hard.
However, what really matters is how we deal with these set backs and how we can bounce back stronger than before. Furthermore, how quickly and effectively we do that is probably going to be the biggest determining factor of success or failure.
If you are willing to stay on the floor and accept defeat, then the pain and hopelessness you experience will consume you that is for sure. On the other hand, if you embrace and welcome adversities as part of living your life to the fullest, they will become a catalyst for change and a window for opportunities.
The following steps can help you create the right attitude and frame of mind, which in turn can help you overcome any adversity that might come your way.
Taking Responsibility For Your Actions
“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” —Jimmy Dean
Plenty of us are guilty of finding ways to blame other people or a particular situation for the problems we encounter. However, if we are honest and take ownership of ourselves, we will have to accept the harsh reality that only YOU can control your actions, reactions and behaviour.
Start to face your problems by taking responsibility and taking control of your emotions and subsequent actions.
Being responsible will undoubtedly change your mindset and will give you increased confidence and courage. This enables YOU to solve your problems because YOU are in control.
Never Dwell On Mistakes And Focus On The Now
“Identify your problems but give your power and energy to solutions.” – Anonymous
If you are often thinking negative thoughts, then this can result in a downward spiral. It would be good practice to try and stop complaining, worrying or blaming yourself for the woes that maybe affecting your life, or even stop blaming other people for that matter.
You will find that this negative mindset will only bring you more heartaches and disappointments the longer you persist with it. Take the time to recognise what went wrong, the mistakes you made, but don`t dwell too long as this could be counterproductive. Once identified, then move on to what you should be doing now.
Gather all the facts and begin planning the steps on how you are going to solve your problem. To keep moving forward be sure to focus on the positive aspects in your life and acknowledge gratitude. This will hopefully give an uplifting sense of feeling that can be utilised to release you from a state of hopelessness.
Ask yourself: “What is my next most appropriate action?”
When you are busy working on the solution, you don’t have time to dwell on negative thoughts, regrets, or worrying about what other people are thinking about you.
Learn A Lesson and Recognise New Opportunities
“Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed on an equal or greater benefit.” – Napoleon Hill
When negative things happen in life, there is always a lesson to be learned. Encountering and dealing with difficult problems can make you realise just how strong you are, and just how capable you are at overcoming whatever life throws at you.
Facing how to overcome adversity in life is something we all come up against from time to time and instead of identifying these roadblocks as a negative we should see it as a positive because it actually makes you more resilient.
When things don’t go according to your plan or how you imagined it, it presents an opportunity for you to change course.
Perhaps you have to reinvent, or maybe change your approach to obtaining the results that you seek. It could be you just need to be more creative with your ideas or focus on being more persistent at solving the problem in hand.
Encourage self awareness and keep an open mind. Ask yourself what does this challenging situation want me to see and understand?
Undoubtedly facing and coping with adversity successfully will make you stronger and helps motivate and shape the person you will become in one, five or even ten years from now.
Always Be Optimistic
“An attitude of positive expectation is the mark of the superior personality.” – Brian Tracy
Adopt a positive outlook. Letting yourself listen to those negative voices in your head only drags you down. However, when you begin to look on the brighter side, you will tend to attract good things into your life and be more successful.
Positive thinking can turn your situation around if you start to think this way. Remember to keep your optimism at healthy levels though, as you need to balance it with being realistic. This will help you see your situation clearly and avoid any rash or drastic decisions you may come to regret.
Things can be difficult in life periodically, but if you believe that you can, then you will. Positivity will give you the strength you need to move forward. But more than that, it can radiate to other people.
By observing a positive attitude, people tend to gravitate towards these kind of people and before you know it and without realising it, new opportunities are presented to you, with less effort on your part.
Keep Your Eyes On The Goal
“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” – Oprah Winfrey
Another question to ask yourself is “what is it that I really want to achieve?” Your true desires and passions will always keep you motivated. It’s important to stay focused on your goals as it will help you confront any situation with confidence, even the bad.
When life starts to get tough and sometimes it will, keeping your goals at the forefront of your mind will remind you of why you are doing the things you are doing. It`s important to recognise and understand that failing is part of the journey. It gives you something to fight for and empowers you to get back up again.
Establishing the motivation and possessing a positive attitude will stand you in good stead to overcome whatever adversity comes your way. Use each obstacle you encounter to your advantage and never stop believing in yourself and your dreams.
